2 main points: Exercise breaks down muscles. Exercise depletes the carbo (glycogen...energy store) in the muscles. That's where the soreness and fatigue/lethargy come from. Read more here. And read some more here. Both are very good reviews.
At CF, be sure to have enough recovery to avoid injury and to put in the requisite intensity (ie, get the most out of every CF hour).
Probably one of the more common and difficult situations here is working-out too much because of over-eating. Daily extra calories drive that "need to exercise" undermining any results. That’s a tough mental game to overcome -- eat-workout-eat-workout...but never making progress; staying even-Steven. Be sure to eat clean & light in order to benefit from CF workouts.
Quality, not quantity. Less is more. Workout smarter. Rest and Recovery...the best CFers use plenty. And if you're going to indulge, have the pudding; that's where the proof is.

Matt D, Great articles on overtraining and recovery, I especially like the "no crying during recovery" quote....;). The other interesting note is some of the recommended supplements to enhance recovery... especially "Cat's Claw", so how do you think the SPCA would react if a bunch of CF-ers were caught herding cats and pulling out their claws...:)
I don't think it's the SPCA we'd have to worry about. I'd look out for Panda Heaven!
So Matt, do you think we work out too much at Corps Fitness if we are going to class 4X/week. I'm feeling fatiqued, especially after Cross Fit on Mondays. Was just thinking today at work, "should I be this physically tired all the time?".
Nat, my guess is that on your other 3 days you are not just sitting around. What else are you doing?

I don't know the answer to any of your questions, but I'd Second what BF writes.
And add, a healthy, fit, athletic LIFESTYLE (you gotta be able to live with it) includes an appropriate balance of:
1) heavy-duty metabolic, power-endurance
2) speed, quickness, agility
3) flexibility/balance
4) limited longer aerobic sessions
5) rest
6) plenty of sport-specific play (basketball, 4-square, swimming, jai alai, rock-climbing, soccer, bowling, volleyball, pommel horse, curling, golf, tennis and billiards...did I get them all?)

Nat: Fatigue could be caused be lots 'o things. Do you note how you feel at EACH of the 4 CF classes you attend? How does it change? Do you feel great at some and like crap at others? Pay attention to that...if you have nothing to give at 1 or more of those, then your tank was empty before you walked in the door...and you might need more recovery time.
