Monday "Did you know...?" Say Boo to Booze.

Alcohol can make a drunken mess of our weight loss and fitness goals (New Years Resolutions, anyone?).

Well, in what ways, you ask?

Obviously, it impairs our judgment and lowers our inhibition which may lead to over-eating, or just psychologically erode our motivation and resolve.




1g of Alcohol has 7 calories. Fat has 9 calories. Protein and Carbs have 4 calories. Further, the body treats Alcohol like any excess Carbs...it burns it first, thus slowing any fat burn we may want.

good stuff! Many people think it's just the extra calories in alcohol that add up, which is true. But alcohol also affects how our bodies use other calories. My old roommate was a registered dietician, and it was always interesting to hear the latest nutrition news and get clarification from her!

You are not helping my business at all with your mis-information campaign. Moderate consumption (1 to 2 beers per day) has proven to increase longevity, reduce the chances of many illnesses and even increase the vitality of people. I agree that excessive consumption is harmful in many ways but beer is just like other foods. You must still measure your caloric intake and make adjustments when you consume beer.

Thanks Mike for that vote of confidence. I was starting to wonder whether or not I would have to give up my 1 or 2 drinks in evening while relaxing. Even in the Tao Te Ching it is about moderation....Ahhh I love that word...moderation,
kinda like balance, another great word......

Muhahahahahaha!!

Was thinking the same thing JU! Moderation is the best word you can use for just about any health decision. I like beer but try to avoid it, red wine during the week (3-5 times a week one small glass). Plenty of info out there on the many health benefits.

The pic says it all to me... first she took his beer away and spent the money on makeup. Then she dragged him out in public wearing that powder blue womans sweater. He looks like he wants to slash his wrists... holding what's left of his gonads so she can't rip them out of his pleated khakis. She's balled up her fist like she's going to bitch slap him if he says another word... I don't thinks she's ever coming back either... ever. EVER!

I gave up drinking Miller beer a few years ago. It really is not all that hard. Water actually has more taste.

I don't know Mere. Maybe I'm still upset about the Adventure Race results. In any case, this Dude needs a few "hero" workouts so he can man up and enjoy his newly found freedom!

If you ask me that chick looks like she's had a transgender experience. For that matter, so does the dude. I'm on the back end of a 12 pack of Old Milwaukee and neither of those two phools are looking like they could be picked up after last call at the Spruce! Philosophically, I like the way the guy thinks. Clinique has 50 year old secret formulas they're still charging an arm and a leg for it's worse than Big Pharma!
