A few insights from my experience's at 24-hour mt bike events:
1. Get there early, it's better to be there earlier than later, because you do not want to be rushed and harried before a race, that is never good.
2. Pick out a spot to set-up a small encampment.
3. If someone has a pop-up tarp or some type of cover bring it. Cover is a good thing, especially if it rains.
4. Bring folding chairs to sit on.
5. Lot's of water.
6. Bring what you need to get your head-on straight, music, i-pods, etc. Whatever it takes to motivate you...
7. Have some gel energy packs to carry with you in the race in case you need some energy. If it is going to be more than a 90 minute race you definitely will need some food.
8. A small personal first-aid kit is a good thing to have too.
9. What about the night before the race, do we want to get together to organize everything and maybe have a group dinner like we did for the adventure race?
10. Bring a towel and a change of clothes.
11. Rain gear if the weather looks iffy.

Got most of it JU! My 2 cents...

1. I'm in for a night before meal/organize dinner.
2. If you can bring a little of your own wash water (in a water jug or something). They will be hosing down competitors but no showers. You will probably have mud in every "place", so it might help.
3. If you are going but not running you MUST have a spectator ticket. You can get them online and it sounds like there is probably a limit so do it now!

That all I have!
