Sunday CF: Do as I say...

CF & Non-CF group braved the chill and inspiring stories of compound fractures and duct tape tourniquets to learn some Mt. Bike Basics. Truly, fantastic information. JJ's a gifted resource...'spose he's been living it wrong on the trails for 7 years so you don't have to! Bike set up, repair, maintenance, and skills. Thanks for taking your time to provide this info!

Glad it went well today and sorry to miss it! I just wanted to let "Capt Awesome" know that there's a t-shirt out there for him! His Wonder Friends can be the crew at CF : )

Everyone look for the Rally In The Valley next year! Awesome riding in Wissahickon State Park run by PMBA. There were clinics for beginner, intermediate and expert riders. Jack did the beginner and had 2 instructors to himself. It was cool as they spotted him over logs and rocks.
Great festival atmosphere to boot.

Thanks to everyone who came out and participated. Having folks who were really interested in gaining some knowledge and skills made it that much more fun for me!!

Last Words;
Mountain biking is a dynamic inter-action between the rider the bike and the Earth. When the rider is nervous and tense, the bike will respond by being stiff and twitchy and it's footing on the Earth will be skittish. Work on relaxing and being loose and you will find the bike will flow easier along the trail and you will expend less energy. Some days you will do more than you expect you can, and some days less than you expect you can, and such it is in life. But the important thing to remember and the thing that matters most is that you put yourself out there!! Here's to safe and fun riding adventures and I look forward to hearing YOUR STORIES about YOUR experiences on the trail! Hope to see you all OUT THERE, WHERE LIFE HAPPENS!! Enjoy!! JJ

JJ - I had never so much as sat on a mtn. bike before agreeing to do the Wildlands challenge last Sept., and truth be told, I was scared s*$@less my first ride. However, 2 things I learned: A., Mtn. biking was WAY cool and I felt exhilirated after doing it,and I therefore would have loved to attend your session on mtn. biking basics,but had a terribly busy weekend and B., after reading your last post above, I can't agree more with your comments about being loose and relaxed vs. uptight and nervous...that makes a HUGE difference! The more I rode when we were preparing for the challenge, the more comfortable I became and it all became a hell of a lot more "easier"...it's like the old saying about a dog being able to smell fear on a person.

anyway, sorry I missed yesterday, but glad you had a nice turn-out...maybe you can do it again :)?

Melissa,

I would say your experience is very typical!!

There seems to be more interest in doing it again, I know some folks were doing a ride in Limerick, so maybe after the ToughMudder event some time in May, we can do it again!!

Thanks for your interst and comments, much appreciated!!
