Tuesday Attitude: It's what you train for!

The Tough Mudder Event

Here's some info from the site:

-"because there is not a race in America that tests toughness, fitness, strength, stamina and mental grit all in one place and all in one day."

-"Tough Mudder is a truly exceptional event for truly exceptional people. Fair weather runners should stay at home."

-"At Tough Mudder, we want to test your all-round mettle, not just your ability to run in a straight line..."

-"Tough Mudders...help out other Tough Mudders...being a Tough Mudder is also about making sure no man is left behind, not worrying about your race time."

-"If this is the kind of thing that annoys you, we suggest you stay at home come race day."
(From the Tough Mudder website)

C'mon...is that written FOR CFers...it's almost like you could replace Tough Mudder with CF???!!!! That's why we do the variety of exercises. That's why we rest while we work. And that's why we work as a group!

So, Jax has already signed up and created a CORPS FITNESS Team. If you sign up, join the CF team by selecting Corps Fitness from the drop-down menu when you register. As usual, the more the merrier. It is an 'individual' event, but there is an expectation that you function as a team, helping each other out as you try to navigate the obstacles (something CFers are used to!). Click here to go to the register page.

Hey Meredith here's your chance to participate in this crazy race without having to save your pennies to travel to England. You can be tortured locally! I think I need a couple more years of CF before I try anything like this, but I would love to watch!!

from the web site: Training for the Tough Mudder isn't like getting ready for a triathlon, marathon or anything else you've ever tried. To get ready for this grueling, one day guentlet you'll have to train a bit differently. - Tip - Start off each day taking cold, freezing showers to prepare for the icey water and mud you'll have to wade through.
Day 1 - The Fire Crotch - To replicate the burning conditions of our ring of fire, cover the inside of your pants with cayenne pepper for a 5 k run through the park.
Day 2 - The Bullocks - Strap some steaks to your legs and take a run through Michael Vick's dogpound.
Day 3 - Empire State of Mind - Since you'll have to get use to jumping from tall places, practice jumping off buildings or moving cars next time you take a drive.
day 4 - Man of Steel - mental toughness is the key - take twice teh recommended dosage of Viagre with your morning coffee and leave at days end wihtout getting fired from work for sexual harassment.

So who is signing up?

My favorite: Tough Mudder is also about experiencing a true sense of camaraderie that, sadly, is rarely seen ourside of the military these days.... We want everyone to compete, but being a Tough Mudder is also about making sure no man is left behind, not worrying about your race time.

Also, you have to register as a spectator if you want to watch ($15). Chris and I will probably be there if anyone wants to join us!!!

If it wasn't for my lack of CF availability before May 2, I'd be all over this; but I won't even be back till May 20th!

What's all the madness about?

Unknown said...

So, if I would sign up, is this done as a group - like we help everyone thru all the obstacles?? Just like Maria said, it scares me and I'm not sure I could do it all - don't want to hold anyone up!!

Tennis Karen

Unknown said...

BTW, what do you wear to something like this?? Clothes and shoes you never want to wear again?

Melissa H. said...

I'm with Karen...let's just put it this way; there's no other group of people I'd rather do this with, but I'll admit...I have some fears in life; heights and tight spaces being 2 of them. However, I know I will be totally kicking myself if I'm not at Bear Creek with ya'll on that day...hmmmm...what to do, what to do...

And Karen, to answer your question about clothes...if you go on the tough mudder website, they actually have recommendations.

Wakinyan4 said...

They suggest very lightweight and quick drying clothing, long sleeves and long pants/tights, and lightweight socks, along with a swimming type cap. Oh, and a heavy duty pair of leather work gloves. It is individual but it is also about helping each other, there is a quote on their site to the effect of, "if your in this for yourself and not willing to help others, stay home"

Jan said...

Karen - In true CF spirit, we won't be slackers out there, but we'll only be as fast as our slowest person. Please don't feel like you'd be holding anyone back...one of the main reasons I like this 'race' is that it's not a race at all. I consider it more of a 'please-let-me-finish-without-breaking-anything' challenge. Has a nice ring to it, yes? Hope you and Melissa will join us!!
